Bill Mohl Leads March for Babies Campaign in Baton Rouge

Entergy leader takes action to boost local support for April 28 fundraising event

BATON ROUGE, La. – As presenting sponsor of the 2012 March for Babies in Baton Rouge, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. is encouraging businesses and individuals to join the company in helping the March of Dimes improve the odds for mothers and their newborns.

The Capital Area March for Babies, which will be held April 28 at A.Z. Young Park in downtown Baton Rouge, is being chaired by Entergy Gulf States Louisiana President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Mohl.

“As a proud new grandfather, I feel profoundly blessed and grateful that my grandson was born healthy,” said Mohl. “Through the March of Dimes, I’ve learned that many newborns are not so fortunate. The March for Babies is a way that we can get involved locally to help prevent premature births and birth defects by raising funds for research and education.”

Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn deaths and many lifelong disabilities. The March of Dimes reports that every year in the United States, more than half a million babies are born prematurely and more than 120,000 are born with serious birth defects. In up to 40 percent of cases, the causes are unknown. As a national organization, the March of Dimes strives to prevent birth defects, premature births and infant mortality through research, community service, education and advocacy.

To boost local support for March for Babies, Mohl is hosting a leadership breakfast on Feb. 14 at the City Club of Baton Rouge. His goal is to challenge area business leaders to join him in raising funds, developing teams and encouraging other companies and their employees to support the March for Babies.

“Not only is a premature birth difficult and expensive for families, but also it affects the parents’ work lives. In addition to having a direct impact on coworkers of the parents, it is costly to companies,” said Karen Moreau, division director for the Capital Area March of Dimes. “Thanks to companies like Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, the March of Dimes is making progress towards giving every baby a healthy start in life.”

Through his chairmanship of March for Babies, Mohl is building on Entergy’s longstanding support of community initiatives, including many that focus on improving education, health care and quality of life.

“As business leaders and Louisianans, we’re all stakeholders in our communities and in our state,” said Mohl. “I believe that helping the March of Dimes build stronger, healthier communities and families is an investment in our future.”
