New Orleans, La. – The Arbor Day
Foundation recognized Entergy Corporation as a 2012 Tree Line USA utility for
its commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care within the Entergy
service territory.
Tree Line USA is a partnership
between the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters
that recognizes public and private utilities for their efforts to protect and
enhance America’s urban trees while ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable
power. It is the seventh year Entergy has been recognized.
“We’re pleased to be recognized by
the Arbor Day Foundation for our vegetation practices,” said Mike Vaughn, vice
president of asset management, Entergy Corporation. “We devote considerable
effort to educate our customers on the benefits of trees in energy conservation
and the importance of proper placement of trees in order to avoid power lines.
Careful selection and conscientious management of new and existing trees helps
us ensure the reliability of the electric system and helps our customers save
money.”
Tree Line USA confers the designation
on utilities that meet five program standards: meeting industry standards for
quality tree care; annual worker training in best tree-care practices;
sponsorship of tree-planting and public education programs; maintenance of a
tree-based energy conservation program and participation in Arbor Day
celebrations.
“Trees are a critical part of urban
landscapes all across the United States,” said John Rosenow, founder and chief
executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Service providers like Entergy show that
taking care of urban trees is good for business, for customers and for the
broader community.”
The Arbor Day Foundation is a
nonprofit conservation and education organization of one million members, with
the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees.
