Entergy Texas Reminds Customers Security Lighting Can Make a Difference
Beaumont, Texas – On Tuesday, Oct. 2, millions of people across the country will take part in National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event that calls for residents everywhere to turn on their porch lights as a show of unity against crime.
But what happens the other 364 days of the year? Entergy Texas just might be able to shed a little light on the subject.
"The idea behind National Night Out is to create awareness of ways people can prevent crime," said Vernon Pierce, customer service director, Entergy Texas, Inc. "Keeping the porch light on highlights one of the ways we do that—by not providing cover of darkness to lawbreakers." Pierce noted that Entergy Texas can help in that effort with the security lights it provides, some of which will add no more than $10 per month to a residential home electric bill.
Via a special link, customers can let Entergy Texas know they are interested in having a security light installed at their home or business. Within just two business days, they will be contacted and a lighting expert will assist them in determining what best suits their needs. An online form is not, however, the only way to start the process. Those who prefer to phone may call 1-866-603-0192. Once a light is installed, no additional fees are included other than the monthly lease rental.
Security lights begin with a 100-watt high-pressure sodium light suitable for a home. High-pressure sodium floodlights are also available in 100-, 400- and 1,000-watt sizes. Metal halide floodlights that provide high-resolution color are available in a 1,000-watt size. Small installation fees are charged, either $25 or $50, depending on the size of the light.
Customers are charged monthly for the lights with the charge added to existing bills. The charges vary depending on the light''s wattage and begin at about $10 per month. Lights are installed only on Entergy poles and if a pole must be installed, an additional fee will be charged.
"We use industry standard products," Pierce said. "They are fully tested, weather-resistant and commercial grade. Our installers are fully trained electrical workers who keep
safety first and foremost in their work."
