Baton Rouge, La. -- Entergy Corporation has again successfully met the
stringent qualifications and criteria to be selected for listing on the Dow
Jones Sustainability Index for 2006, the company announced today. This is the
fourth year in a row that Entergy has been selected for listing, and the company
is one of only two U.S. electricity sector companies listed on the index.
The Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes track the performance of companies
that lead their field in terms of corporate sustainability on a global basis.
Listing on the index is based on a thorough assessment of general and
industry-specific sustainability criteria, which is then verified by an external
auditor.
In 2005, there were 438 North American companies analyzed for the DJSI as
compared to 370 in 2004.
Listing as a DJSI company communicates honesty, integrity and commitment to
sustainability to shareholders and key segments of the investment community.
The DJSI evaluated companies based on their performance in three dimensions,
which include economic, environmental and social. Entergy ranked best in class
for the electricity sector in the social dimension. In the economic dimension,
Entergy scored best in class for corporate governance and investor relations
criteria. In the environmental dimension, Entergy ranked best in class in
environmental reporting criteria. And in the social reporting dimension, Entergy
scored best in class in corporate citizenship/philanthropy, and occupational
safety and health criteria.
Continued listing as a DJSI company is a significant achievement in Entergy’s
quest to be viewed not only as a company with outstanding financial performance,
but also as an environmental leader in the utility industry and a company
committed to the communities where it does business.
Entergy''s commitments to addressing global warming, its investment in
generation technologies, and its low-income customer assistance initiatives all
played significant roles in meeting the stringent criteria to be listed on this
index.
