Entergy Only U.S. Utility Named to Worldwide Dow Jones Sustainability Index

New Orleans, La. – Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes selected Entergy Corporation as the only U.S. utility for listing on the highly-regarded Dow Jones Sustainability Index – World. Entergy also is the only U.S. utility to make the DJSI five years in a row.

The DJSI is a listing of the companies whose overall environmental, social and economic sustainability performance scores were in the top 10 percent for their sector. Dow Jones evaluated 1,200 of the world’s largest companies in 58 different sectors and recently announced which companies were selected for the DJSI-World. Listing on the index is based on a thorough assessment of general and industry-specific sustainability criteria, which is then verified by an external auditor.

“Carrying out a sustainable business model delivers immediate and tangible benefits to our customers, employees, communities and investors,” said J. Wayne Leonard, Entergy’s chairman and CEO. “Our continued listing as a DJSI company is unprecedented for a U.S. utility company and demonstrates that this is not just a mission statement or an aspiration. This is what we value and how we choose to live our lives in the service of others.”

In the electricity sector, Entergy ranked best in class for:

  • Social Responsibility
  • Corporate Governance
  • Climate Strategy
  • Corporate Citizenship/Philanthropy
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Occupational Health & Safety

Entergy's commitment to addressing global warming, its investment in clean, efficient generating technologies, and its low-income customer assistance initiatives all played significant roles in meeting the stringent criteria to be listed on this index. Entergy strives to be an industry leader in total shareholder return, an accident-free work environment, environmental excellence, growth-oriented financial results, and a comprehensive approach to meeting the needs of low-income customers.
