Responsibilities:

  • Leads the company and sets philosophy and long-term strategies that are consistently applied and effectively implemented
  • Establishes objectives and plans that meet the needs of shareholders, customers, employees, and all corporate stakeholders
  • Supervises an effective top management team capable of achieving objectives; provides for management succession
  • Serves as chief spokesperson, communicating effectively with shareholders and all stakeholders
  • Ensures that the company and its operating units contribute appropriately to the well-being of their communities and the industry
  • Works closely with the board of directors to keep them fully informed on all-important aspects of the status and development of the company

Accomplishments:

  • Achieved the highest total shareholder return in the industry over the last nine years as CEO; Entergy’s average annual shareholder return was 33% (2007)
  • Implemented a new strategy emphasizing core competencies in the areas of power development and nuclear generation, along with renewed attention to the core utility business (1998)
  • Improved financial and operational performance as a result of new strategy, establishing consistent record of meeting investor expectations for delivering on commitments
  • Built foundation for constructive regulatory relations by calling for major upgrades to reliability and customer service in the core utility business
  • Completed the first U.S. purchase of a nuclear plant and created Entergy-Koch, LP, a joint venture that established a track record of superior performance
  • Initiated Entergy’s Low-Income Summit in 1999, convening customer advocates, regulators, and other public officials to address community issues
  • Published articles on innovative competitive market structure alternatives and unique perspectives on low-income and environmental issues
