Meet Chris Moody, project manager for commercial and support operations in the system planning and operations organization, based in The Woodlands, Texas.

Moody, born and raised in the small town of Mooreland, Oklahoma, graduated as valedictorian of his class of 22 students. After high school, Chris enrolled at Oklahoma State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration specializing in finance with a minor in international business.

Moody joined Entergy in 2013 as a senior analyst for the settlements group within SPO. In that role, he analyzed MISO settlements and market activity while creating reporting tools that helped the SPO team track their performance in the then-new MISO market.  In 2016, he transitioned into his current role as project manager for commercial and support operations where he manages the auction revenue rights and financial transmission rights portfolios for the five operating companies within the company.

“MISO pays us for the generation that we produce from our power plants, then we technically buy the power to serve our load from MISO. The markets usually drive load to cost more than generation revenues, so my job is to use the ARRs and FTRs to offset that cost as much as possible,” Moody said.

Moody says the most important and fun part about the job is when he gets to present on these strategies annually. “It’s a complex process, but I love what I do. Being able to present the work I’ve done every year to executive leadership of the operating companies is one of the most exciting parts of this job.”

Moody spoke about one of the moments that he’s most proud of throughout his career.

“One of my most meaningful accomplishments was working with my team to offset congestion costs by utilizing the ARRs and FTRs for the company. Using these tools, we were able to reduce costs for our customers by an astounding $343 million over the past nine years. That’s huge because this offset cost is being used to improve affordability for our customers, cutting down the price of their monthly bills.”

When asked about his favorite part of working at the company, Moody points to his amazing team. “I get to work with an incredibly smart and results-oriented team. That’s what helps me thrive and keeps me going. I love my job and I’m very happy working with my team and the SPO organization.”

Moody also spoke about what he likes to do for fun.

“Staying active is the key. I have a really great group of friends who love to explore new places, foods and venues. I also have two kids, a 23-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son, who love going to concerts and playing golf too,” he said.

A fun fact about Moody is that he loves to travel. He’s traveled around the world to many countries such as Greece, London, Portugal, Croatia and Germany.
