Entergy Arkansas is strengthening its partnerships with local emergency responders through a new First Responders Appreciation and Education Initiative, designed to enhance collaboration while delivering critical electrical safety training.
Held over three evenings in El Dorado and Magnolia, the events brought together municipal firefighters, volunteer fire departments, law enforcement, EMTs, local emergency planning committees, county leaders and other emergency personnel. The initiative focused on equipping those on the front lines with a deeper understanding of electrical hazards and how to safely respond in emergency situations involving energized equipment.
At the center of the training was Entergy Arkansas’s interactive Arcs & Sparks demonstration, which gave attendees a firsthand look at how electricity behaves in real-world scenarios.
“Our Arcs and Sparks team did a great job informing our first responders about how electricity works and how dangerous it can be,” said Quan Moore, Entergy Arkansas customer service manager. “We showed how it interacts with water, limbs and even used hot dogs and chicken wings to demonstrate what it can do to human flesh.”
The training also addressed wildfire mitigation, a growing concern for many emergency responders in the region.
“One of the volunteer firefighters asked several questions about that because he has been on several wildfire calls,” Moore said.
The events sparked meaningful conversations. One volunteer firefighter shared a video of a transformer incident that occurred at a home.
“He told us how much he appreciated our demonstrations and said it gave him a better understanding of what happened that day and how to keep his crews safe moving forward,” Moore said.
Moments like these reinforced the purpose behind the initiative—equipping responders with knowledge that can directly impact safety in the field.
“Reaching just one person can save the lives of so many others,” Moore said.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of coordination between Entergy crews and emergency responders, especially during fast-moving incidents.
“Our linemen aren’t listed as first responders, but there are many times where they arrive on scene first,” Moore said. “It’s very important we have these connections and conversations with our partners in our communities.”
This effort supports Entergy Arkansas’s Next Generation Arkansas vision, which is designed to deliver more reliable and resilient power for customers across the state. By strengthening coordination between utility crews and first responders, the initiative contributes to faster, safer and more effective responses during outages and emergency situations—ultimately improving service for the communities we serve.
Looking ahead, Entergy Arkansas plans to build on this momentum and expand the initiative across its service territory.
“This is just the beginning,” Moore said. “This is just another way we can impact our communities and our customers,” Moore said.
