Entergy Arkansas remains focused on keeping customers informed as we continue to assess the impacts of the winter storm that brought snow, sleet and freezing rain across much of our service area.

While the storm has moved out of the state, extremely cold temperatures persist. Our power delivery teams are actively monitoring system conditions and carefully balancing load across the state to protect both customers and critical equipment.

Cold weather restoration is handled differently

During cold temperature extremes, customers tend to use a lot of electricity to keep heating or other devices running. Electric heaters often run continuously, creating a constant power demand.

When power is disrupted during winter, many customers leave their heating systems and appliances turned on, creating too much energy demand all at once when service is restored.

Restoring all customers on the same power line simultaneously can create large, instantaneous power demands. The instant demand could be higher than the built-in protective devices on a line were designed to handle.

Customers without power can help by turning off major appliances but leaving on a lamp or other light to indicate when power is restored. Then, gradually turn other appliances on to spread out the increase in power usage over a longer time.

Cold weather-specific tips

  • Lower the central thermostat to 68 degrees or the coolest comfortable temperature.
  • Open blinds, drapes and curtains to let in warmth from the sun.
  • Make sure ceiling fans are rotating in the right direction – clockwise during winter.
  • Don’t allow warmed air to escape from the home.

Customer support measures

We encourage Arkansans to remain diligent about their safety. With freezing temperatures continuing for the next 36 hours, road conditions may still be hazardous. If travel is absolutely necessary, please use extreme caution. Road condition and closure information can be found here for here: Arkansas Road Conditions

Customers who use a portable generator should place it as far away from their home as possible to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide exposure. Always take time to carefully read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before setting up and operating your generator.

To help customers navigate this severe cold weather, all disconnections have been proactively suspended through Monday, February 2. We will reassess based on weather conditions, and disconnections will resume only when temperatures are above 32 degrees.

While we work to restore power as quickly as possible, restoration during extreme cold can take longer due to hazardous conditions and increased demand on heating systems. We appreciate our customers’ patience as crews work safely under challenging circumstances.

Safety reminders

  • Stay away from downed power lines — they can be deadly
  • Report downed lines or damaged equipment by calling 1-800-9OUTAGE
  • Never attempt to remove debris near power lines
  • Keep clear of work areas where crews are restoring service
  • Use generators outdoors only and follow all manufacturer safety guidelines
  • Check on seniors and vulnerable neighbors
  • Avoid travel when possible to reduce accidents and allow crews safe access

Warming centers available

If outages occur, restoration may take additional time due to hazardous conditions and system demand. Entergy Arkansas is coordinating with local and state officials to support warming centers across impacted areas and to address the needs of critical facilities.

Customers with special needs or medical considerations should plan for alternative accommodations in the event of an extended outage.
