Spotlighting our communities at the AABE Energy Policy Summit

TheAmerican Association of Blacks in Energybrought together a diverse network of energy professionals representing every energy career field during its 2023 Energy Policy Summit held in Washington, D.C. in December. The AABE is a non-profit organization that promotes the advancement of Blacks and other minorities in the energy industry. The Summit serves as a platform for amplifying the voices of people of color on energy policy matters and attracts excellent speakers. By fostering valuable dialogue with policy leaders, the Summit addresses economic opportunities and their impact on underserved communities.

2023: The centennial in review

As we put a bow on 2023 and start building 2024, we’re looking at the top stories that shaped Entergy Mississippi’s centennial year. From an Entergy first, to a rate drop, and multiple community contributions – our year was packed with stories of impactful efforts across our 45-county service area.

Entergy helps empower women in energy at Congressional Black Caucus Institute meeting in Houston

In October, Entergy hosted an “Empowering women in energy” panel during the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute 2023 fourth quarter meeting in Houston. The CBC Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social welfare organization whose primary mission is to “educate today’s voters and train tomorrow’s leaders,” as well as inform, inspire and ignite its communities into action on issues that affect them the most. The meeting was held in Houston to allow members of Congress and various industry governmental affairs representatives to tour the area and hear from local industries with a focus on the energy industry. 

Entergy’s Employee Resource Groups recognized in the top 10 at the 2023 Diversity Impact Awards

Recently, Entergy’s employee resource groups, or ERGs, were awarded fifth place in the top 10 enterprise-wide competition at the prestigious 2023 Diversity Impact Awards ceremony during the Global ERG Network Conference held in Washington, D.C.

I was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I lived there with my mom, dad, sisters, and entire family until I was 18 years old. From a young age, I always knew I wanted to study engineering and pursue my college studies in the United States. When I turned 18 and graduated high school, my family and I knew it was time for me to pursue my dream and attend the University of Florida in Gainesville. I went from chasing iguanas in my grandmother’s backyard to learning to yield to alligators when crossing the street.

I learned at a young age what it takes to be resilient. At 19, I moved to the United States and began taking college-level classes for the first time in a new language. The move felt both heart-breaking and intimidating, as I felt I was leaving people behind and didn’t know what was ahead. Looking back, moving was the best thing that happened to me. The perspective I gained from understanding two different cultures is immensely valuable in realizing why each of us are different and how our differences become our strength.
