For Entergy Arkansas business and economic development project manager, Bentley Story, graduating from Leadership Arkansas Class XX was more than a professional achievement. It was an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the people, communities and partnerships that help power Arkansas’s future.
Leadership Arkansas is a nine-month leadership development program organized by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce/Associated Industries of Arkansas. The program brings together leaders from across the state to explore Arkansas’s opportunities and challenges while building relationships that strengthen communities and industries.
Having spent much of his career focused on economic development and community growth, Story said he viewed the program as a unique opportunity to see Arkansas through a different lens.
“When the opportunity arose, I felt like it was something I shouldn’t pass up,” Story said. “I wanted a deeper, firsthand look at the opportunities and challenges across our state.”
Throughout the program, participants traveled across the state, meeting with community leaders, business professionals and public servants. While he expected to learn more about Arkansas and expand his network, Story said the experience exceeded expectations.
“The conversations were candid, the communities were incredibly welcoming, and our class quickly turned into a genuine network of peers,” he said. “It was much more impactful than I anticipated.”
One of the most meaningful lessons came from witnessing the passion Arkansans have for their hometowns and regions.
“The moments that stood out the most were seeing how deeply people care about their communities and how genuinely they want what’s best for our state,” Story said. “Every stop on the program—big or small—showed just how committed Arkansans are to building a stronger future.”
The experience reinforced the importance of collaboration, something Story sees every day in his work at Entergy Arkansas.
“The program enhanced my grasp of how different factors contribute to thriving communities,” he said. “Leadership Arkansas highlighted just how crucial teamwork among all stakeholders is for the state’s prosperity.”
Danny Games, vice president of business and economic development for Entergy Arkansas, said the accomplishment reflects both professional excellence and a commitment to serving Arkansas.
“We are proud to congratulate Bentley on graduating from Leadership Arkansas,” Games said. “The program develops leaders who are committed to making a positive impact across our state, and the relationships and insights Bentley has gained will help us create stronger communities and support economic growth for Arkansans.”
Looking back, Story said the biggest lesson was simple.
“My biggest takeaway is that progress happens when people work together,” he said. “When we bring different voices and perspectives to the table, we create better outcomes for the entire state.”
