For many children, a warm winter coat is more than protection from the cold, it’s comfort, confidence, concentration and dignity. That message came through loud and clear during this year’s Operation Warm coat distribution at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy in Little Rock.

Thanks to a strong partnership between Entergy Arkansas, the Little Rock Fire Department and the Little Rock School District, hundreds of students will head into the winter months better prepared to learn, play and thrive.

This year marked a milestone for Operation Warm as the program celebrated a decade of impact across 15 schools. Through the combined efforts of Entergy Arkansas and Little Rock Firefighters Union Local 34, nearly 900 students at multiple schools received brand-new winter coats this year.

Principal Clifton Woodley shared that for many students, receiving a new coat goes far beyond staying warm. It helps ease financial stress for families, boosts confidence and removes barriers to attendance and participation at school. When students aren’t worried about being cold, they can focus on what truly matters, learning and growing, he said.

One of the most powerful parts of Operation Warm is how it’s funded. Little Rock firefighters voluntarily contribute from each paycheck throughout the year to make the program possible, a testament to servant leadership and community dedication.

City leaders and school officials recognized this commitment during the event, noting that these everyday acts of generosity make a lasting difference for children across the city.

For Entergy Arkansas employees who volunteered, the day was especially meaningful. Walking classroom to classroom, seeing students’ excitement and reading handmade “Thank you, Entergy” signs served as a powerful reminder of the impact of our time and partnership.

Many children smiled a little wider as they modeled their new coats, while teachers and administrators shared how something as simple as warmth can improve focus, attendance and overall wellness during the school day.

Through partnerships like Operation Warm, Entergy employees will log tens of thousands of volunteer hours this year, proof that our commitment to communities is more than words. It’s action.

We are grateful to our partners at the Little Rock Fire Department, the Little Rock School District and Operation Warm for allowing us to play a role in this important work. Together, we are helping ensure children across our communities stay warm, feel supported and are ready to succeed, not just this winter, but for years to come.
