Every football team relies on players who are dependable, disciplined and ready to step up when they’re needed. For Entergy Texas relay technician Chris Guitierrez, that mindset extends far beyond the field, and is reflected in the hard work that has earned him recognition as Lineman of the Game during the New Orleans Saints vs. New York Jets matchup on Dec. 21.
The Lineman of the Game program is a partnership between Entergy and the Saints to honor exemplary lineworkers who embody safety, skill and service.
“I show up every day, and I’m always available,” Gutierrez said. “I’m willing to do whatever I can to help my team.”
Born and raised in Southeast Texas, Gutierrez was first introduced to electrical work through his uncle. After working alongside him, he gained a deep appreciation for the field and the responsibility that comes with keeping power flowing for his neighbors. That experience ultimately led him to Entergy Texas, where he has worked for more than three years.
As a relay technician, Gutierrez plays a critical role behind the scenes, helping ensure the reliability of the electrical grid. His work took on even greater importance following Hurricane Beryl, when he joined local restoration teams to inspect and test key grid components, assessing damage and supporting efforts to safely and efficiently restore power to customers impacted by the storm.
While his dedication on the job stands out, Gutierrez says his greatest motivation comes from home.
He spends his time outside of work with his 11-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son, both of whom play basketball year-round, including travel leagues. From coaching part time to cheering loudly from the bleachers, Gutierrez does whatever it takes to support his children doing what they love.
“Travel basketball can definitely be crazy, but all the extra time and effort is worth it to experience so many great moments together with my family,” he said.
That family connection to sports makes being named Lineman of the Game especially meaningful. Gutierrez is looking forward to attending the game with his son.
