THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Entergy Texas has restored power to nearly all customers impacted by Tropical Storm Edouard. As of 2 p.m. Saturday, fewer than 800 customers remain without power, and crews continue to make repairs and turn the lights back on in the hardest-hit communities. At the peak on Tuesday night, the storm left approximately 80,000 customers without service, and all customers who can safely take power are expected to be restored by tonight.

“I want to thank our customers for their patience and our employees and contractors for their determination to safely restore power as quickly as possible,” said Eliecer Viamontes, CEO of Entergy Texas. “We know how disruptive any outage is for families and businesses, and we take our responsibility to deliver reliable service seriously, especially during severe weather events. Our community partners helped us stay connected to customers throughout the response, and we are grateful for their support.”

Edouard made landfall near the Texas coastline Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that caused downed trees, widespread debris and significant flooding across Southeast Texas. A workforce of more than 2,100 people, including lineworkers, vegetation crews, damage assessors and support personnel, supported restoration efforts.

Continued rain and flooding slowed complicated repairs long after the storm’s initial impacts. Flooded roads, saturated ground, fallen trees and difficult backyard access increased the time needed to reach equipment and complete repairs. Teams used boats, high-water vehicles, rear-alley machines, helicopters and drones to support assessments and restoration in hard-to-reach locations. In some locations, repairs required hours of work to restore power to just a few customers.

Recent investments to strengthen the Southeast Texas power grid also demonstrated their value. For example, all 240 poles replaced through a $5 million reliability project completed in Port Arthur in 2024 withstood 90-mile-per-hour wind gusts. The project upgraded aging poles and power lines to meet modern standards for extreme wind conditions, which led to a faster restoration in one of the hardest-hit areas following direct impacts from Edouard.

“Our responsibility extends beyond restoring power after a storm,” Viamontes said. “We’re committed to building a more resilient system, so customers experience fewer outages and quicker recovery when storms hit. The performance of the upgraded poles in Port Arthur shows that this approach is working.”

As restoration for Edouard nears completion, Entergy Texas is advancing major grid-improvement projects through its Southeast Texas Energy Plan, also known as STEP Ahead. These investments support the company’s commitment to meet the growing energy demand across our region, provide reliable service year-round and improve the resiliency of our system when severe weather strikes.
