THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Less than 24 hours after Edouard made landfall in Southeast Texas, Entergy Texas crews worked in shifts throughout the night to restore roughly 25,000 customers impacted by the storm’s strong winds and heavy rain. As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, about 51,000 customers are without power, down from a peak of approximately 80,000 customers on Tuesday. 

Entergy Texas expects to restore at least 50% of all impacted customers by the end of the day on Wednesday, but customers in the hardest-hit areas may experience longer restoration times due to extensive damage and ongoing weather challenges like lightening. Communities in and near the path of Edouard experienced the greatest impacts, including Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange and Silsbee. Detailed estimated restoration times will be shared later today on Entergy’s View Outage Map once damage assessments are further along. 

Edouard made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and gusts up to 90 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The storm has weakened into a tropical depression but continues to linger in parts of our service area, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Crews will continue restoration work throughout the day as weather and access conditions allow. High winds, flooding and debris can make it unsafe for crews to access some areas or use certain equipment.  

As conditions improve, more than 1,800 resources in the field supporting restoration efforts will continue to move into affected areas to safely and quickly restore power.  

Crews will continue assessing the electrical system, utilizing specialized equipment including helicopters, drones, rear-alley machines and high-water vehicles, throughout the day as they gain access to impacted areas. 

Restoration work and damage assessments can occur simultaneously. Crews prioritize repairs to major electrical infrastructure and critical services before moving to lines serving neighborhoods and individual customers. This process allows crews to safely restore power to the greatest number of customers as quickly as possible.

Stay safe following the storm 

Customers should continue to use caution as Edouard moves through Southeast Texas, and crews work to restore power: 

• Stay away from downed power lines and anything they may be touching. Always assume a downed line is energized. 

• Do not walk or drive through floodwaters. Flooding can hide electrical hazards and other dangers. 

• Do not trim trees or remove debris near downed power lines. Only qualified crews should remove vegetation touching electrical equipment. 

• Keep a safe distance from crews and work zones so employees can safely complete restoration work. 

• If using a generator, follow all manufacturer instructions and never operate it indoors or in an enclosed space. 

• Report downed or damaged power lines by calling 1-800-9OUTAGE (1-800-968-8243).
