Entergy today completed the sale of the subsidiary that owns the Palisades Power Plant to Holtec International to ensure a safe and timely decommissioning of the nuclear site. The sale of the Palisades plant completes Entergy’s planned exit from the nuclear merchant power business.

Entergy’s Palisades team finishes strong as facility shuts down

Control room operators at Entergy’s Palisades Power Plant safely removed the nuclear reactor from service for the final time today, May 20, 2022. The final shut down marks the end of more than 50 successful years of safe, secure, and reliable generation of clean, carbon-free electricity at Palisades, which began commercial operation in 1971.

Credibility, Competency, Teamwork at the Core of Nuclear Training Programs’ Accreditation

This past year, Entergy Nuclear successfully renewed accreditation for operator training programs at Arkansas Nuclear One and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. Accreditation for maintenance and technical training programs was achieved at Cooper Nuclear Station and Indian Point Energy Center. In addition, Palisades just completed a successful accreditation team visit and will seek the renewal of its operator training programs in March of 2020.

Palisades Power Plant Returns to Service

Palisades Power Plant returned to service this morning, following the completion of its successful scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. Control room personnel returned the plant to operation, sending electricity to the grid after a planned shutdown that began October 28. This was the 26th refueling in the plant’s history.

Entergy has agreed to sell the subsidiaries that own the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Palisades Power Plant in Covert, Michigan, after their shutdowns and reactor defuelings, to a Holtec International subsidiary for accelerated decommissioning.
