Entergy’s Environmental Initiative Fund is supporting the launch of a Jackson, Mississippi program that addresses two issues at the core of our business – environmental stewardship and workforce development.
Entergy Mississippi is helping to prepare the state’s next generation of lineworkers for the field by donating one of the most essential pieces of learning equipment to Hinds Community College. The company donated 21 utility poles to the community college’snew electrical lineworker program– a value of nearly $9,200.
Engineers are key players in our business. Along with operations coordinators and supervisors, they turn data into design, making grid improvements more resilient and reliable. When it came to a recent substation rebuild in Winona, Mississippi, these grid teams took their duties a step further and in turn saved our customers $390,000.
Linemen of a different game recently toured Entergy facilities by way of a new collaborative effort between Workforce Development and Procurement and Supply Chain. The Power Players program welcomed student-athletes from the Mississippi State University football team, with the goal of exposing them to the company’s landscape, intimately meeting with leaders, and discussing their journeys after graduation. They’re the first group to experience the pilot program.
Entergy Mississippi completes Grand Gulf to Franklin Substation projectnEntergy Mississippi recently completed a $1.3 million project to update a major transmission pathway coming from the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. The completion of the project supports affordability and significantly lowers the risk of transmission interruptions between Entergy Mississippi’s single largest power resource and the Franklin Substation located in Franklin County, Mississippi.

Employees exceed previous year’s volunteer hoursnAt the top of 2023, Entergy Mississippi set a big goal for itself. With April marking 100 years since the utility began serving the state, ‘the power of 100’ became the backdrop for its volunteerism and community-centered efforts. The company kicked off the centennial celebration by partnering with local organizations to provide nutritional meals to families in need, and energy efficiency kits to help customers lower their power usage and bills.
As we put a bow on 2023 and start building 2024, we’re looking at the top stories that shaped Entergy Mississippi’s centennial year. From an Entergy first, to a rate drop, and multiple community contributions – our year was packed with stories of impactful efforts across our 45-county service area.
