Entergy is proud to celebrate Nuclear Science Week, an international, broadly observed week-long celebration to focus local, regional and international interests on all aspects of nuclear science. Nuclear Science Week is celebrated during the third week of October each year.

Nuclear energy has safely and reliably powered our communities for more than 50 years and is poised to provide clean and reliable power for decades to come. Entergy owns and operates a national fleet of five reactors in four locations, safely generating enough clean electricity to power more than 2.6 million homes. With approximately 3,000 nuclear professionals in multiple states, Entergy is more than just a fleet of nuclear power plants. It is a company dedicated to improving the lives of its customers, communities and the environment in which its employees live and work.

By harnessing 100% clean nuclear power, we achieve our climate goals, drive economic and community development and meet U.S. energy security needs.

Get to know nuclear

This week is an invitation to “Get to Know Nuclear” through local events and educational opportunities, and our teams are excited to give back to the communities where we live and work. We have team members who are planning to visit local high schools to discuss career options, host government partners for site visits, participate in community activities in coordination with other national industry groups, and even build candy reactors with elementary students. And that’s just a few of the many events planned by our teams.

You may know that nuclear energy is clean and reliable, but did you know:

  • One uranium fuel pellet is about the same size as a gummy bear. One pellet creates as much energy as 1 ton of coal, or 149 gallons of oil, or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
  • A typical nuclear power reactor generates enough electricity to power 755,000 homes without emitting any greenhouse gases. That’s more than enough to power a city the size of Philadelphia, a city with a population of 1.6 million.
  • Entergy’s fleet of nuclear plants prevents the emission of nearly 23 million metric tons of carbon dioxide yearly, which is approximately the amount released by 5 million vehicles each year.
