Meet Brittney Powell, manager of fuel supply operations in the System Planning and Operations department, based in The Woodlands, Texas.

Originally from Allen, Texas, just north of Dallas, Powell received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Texas State University in San Marcos. Before joining Entergy, she spent about four years working in banking. She enjoyed her banking role, where she
gained valuable financial knowledge that continues to benefit her in her personal life. However, she realized it wasn’t the right long-term fit and was eager to explore new opportunities. After considering her goals and next career move, she decided to join Entergy’s solid fuels/coal team. During her first few years at Entergy, Powell earned her MBA from Chadron State College, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA. Over the course of her time at Entergy, Powell has continued to learn how different markets operate and has taken on increasing responsibilities.
“My role now is to manage a team responsible for procuring fuel in a way that prioritizes reliability and economics, directly impacting Entergy’s ability to fulfill its purpose — to power life. I also work with our long-term-focused team to drive decisions on how we will support the growth of our future fleet. That is one of the coolest parts of this role, working through dynamic markets and making decisions that affect our stakeholders in real-time and that will impact our communities for decades to come,” Powell said.
Powell says one of her favorite accomplishments at Entergy is spearheading the company’s asset management agreement strategy. This initiative focuses on optimizing Entergy’s assets while increasing reliability. What started as a small pilot has transformed into a core strategy, providing tens of millions of dollars in customer savings. “You have to think outside the box to reach new heights for the company,” she said.
When asked about her favorite part of working at Entergy, Powell points to the people. “I get to work with a high-performing, kind and diverse group of individuals.” She said watching her team members and peers achieve major milestones is especially meaningful. “You spend almost more time at work than you do at home, and I am very fortunate to be able to spend my time with such fantastic people.” Powell reflected on how her team fits into the company’s strategy, noting, “In my role, I have the opportunity to see how our work powers everyday life around us, and that tangible impact is a large part of what makes it so rewarding.”
Outside of work, Powell enjoys spending time with her husband and best friend, Matt, who also works at Entergy in Power Delivery, as they raise their two young boys, Miles and Jett, who keep them both busy and entertained. A fun fact about Powell is that her late great-uncle was the bus driver for legendary singer Willie Nelson.
