This is a time of historic economic growth in Mississippi – and higher demand for electricity. In response, Entergy Mississippi is adding more power capacity and investing to harden the power grid. And we’re making these infrastructure improvements in ways that are designed to keep our rates among the lowest in the nation.

Across America, electric utilities are expected to invest as much as $1.4 trillion over the next six years to strengthen the power grid. In Mississippi, we’re making the largest grid investment in our more than 100-year history. This plan, Superpower Mississippi, was launched in 2025 with an additional $300 million for improving reliability and reducing power outages through stronger materials, tree trimming measures and technology-driven distribution network upgrades.

The additional funding for Superpower Mississippi came from investments in the state by companies like Amazon and Avaio. Their data centers will account for more than $30 billion in investments in Mississippi’s economy. The Amazon projects will create at least 2,000 direct jobs, with an average annual salary above the state’s annual average.

Combined with $600 million in  funding already included in our grid improvement plans, Entergy Mississippi will invest nearly $1 billion over five years. We’ll improve reliability while keeping rates far below the national average. We’re able to invest 50% more in reliability to reach a 50% reduction in outages, all at 0% added cost to our customers.

We’re also working on behalf of our customers and in conjunction with elected officials and our regulators to modernize and expand the power generation fleet. Some plants in our fleet have served Entergy Mississippi customers well for more than 50 years. They produced affordable power that helped keep our electricity rates 15%-25% below the national average for decades.

Now, they will be retired and replaced as they approach the end of their useful lifecycles. Our newer, modern power generation facilities will use cleaner, more efficient technologies that can meet the current and future power needs of all our customers.

We’re building three combined cycle combustion turbine natural gas plants, representing approximately $3.5 billion in infrastructure investment and 2,100 megawatts of power capacity.

Delta Blues Advanced Power Station in Greenville is expected to be in service May 2028 and will replace the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station.

Another new plant, Vicksburg Advanced Power Station, will be built at the site of Entergy Mississippi’s Baxter Wilson Steam Electric Station. The new Vicksburg plant is expected to be operational in August 2028.

A third plant, Traceview Advanced Power Station, will be in Ridgeland, with an expected in-service date of August 2029.

We’re also constructing or expanding seven customer-dedicated substations to support large industrial projects, plus three more substations that will support our transmission and power generation infrastructure.

“Serving the kind of growth we’re seeing takes a lot more than just keeping pace,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “It requires planning ahead, and that’s what we’re doing.”

Accomplishing these big projects now will help us serve the needs of existing customers as well as continue to attract large companies that are making big commitments to Mississippi as they create a data-driven future.

As we make these investments, we are carefully planning to balance reliability and affordability. Accelerating the replacement of retired generation plants for example, has allowed us to beat the rush for equipment that is increasing in costs worldwide. That will save a projected $1.3 billion in materials and equipment costs for new generation. Our customers will share a smaller portion of the costs than if the same plants were built on their original schedules. Adding advanced power generation stations to our fleet will also save an estimated $700 million in future fuel costs.

Through Superpower Mississippi, Entergy Mississippi is helping to keep our state a place where communities thrive, businesses grow and people have power when and where they need it.
