As temperatures rise across the city this summer, Energy Smart is showing up in neighborhoods through a series of community events sharing practical ways to help New Orleanians stay cool, lower energy bills, save money and connect with available programs and resources.

The timing is critical. As heat and humidity increase, cooling costs can account for more than half of a typical summer energy bill, making energy-saving strategies especially important during the hottest months of the year, when energy bills are often at their highest.

Energy Smart has hosted three neighborhood events so far this year, bringing together residents, community resource partners, trusted trade ally contractors, energy advisors and local leaders. More than informational sessions, these events are about making sure people know what’s available to them and making it easier to find solutions close to home while helping them take control of energy costs at a time when it matters most.

From conversations about keeping homes cooler during extreme heat to exploring rebates and discounts that can save hundreds of dollars, this event is an opportunity to ask questions and learn practical ways that make a noticeable difference at home. Whether it’s a free home assessment, sealing drafts, upgrading appliances and equipment, or adjusting thermostat settings – even small changes can add up to savings month after month.

In addition to learning about energy-saving opportunities, attendees can connect with neighbors and community organizations working together to support stronger, more resilient communities throughout New Orleans.
