Electric vehicle drivers in the Mississippi Delta now have more options for keeping their vehicles charged and on the road. Entergy Mississippi recently installed new EV fast-charging stations in Cleveland and Greenville. The newest sites expand the company’s network of EV installations in the state that began in 2021.

Drivers can find the Greenville chargers downtown at Hotel 27. In Cleveland, the new charging station is hosted downtown by the City of Cleveland. Prior to these installations, in 2023, Entergy Mississippi opened its first fast-charging station in Ridgeland. That was the first company-owned EV charging station of its kind in Entergy Corporation’s four-state service area. The company then expanded its fast-charging network with sites in Brandon and Magee.

The fast-charging sites have two chargers, each equipped with four plugs. That means eight vehicles could recharge at once. After Greenville and Cleveland, Entergy Mississippi plans one more fast-charging site, set to open in Natchez in May. These charging stations are DC fast chargers that are capable of getting drivers back on the road in approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

“Building an EV charging network has allowed us to better understand the grid requirements for this new type of infrastructure,” said Tison Reno, Entergy Mississippi’s manager of product and services deployment. “More important, it’s one more way that we are working to provide reliable power for people in Mississippi, wherever and however they need it: at home, at work or, in this case, on the road.”

Electric Highway Coalition

In 2021, Entergy and five other utility companies formed the Electric Highway Coalition. The group works to ensure that EV drivers find a network of charging stations along major highway systems from the Atlantic Coast through the Midwest and South, and into the Gulf Coast and Central Plains regions. Founding member companies included American Electric Power, Dominion Energy, Duke Energy, Entergy Corporation, Southern Company and Tennessee Valley Authority.

Coalition members now include more than 60 investor-owned and municipal electric companies and electric cooperatives. Collectively they serve more than 120 million U.S. electric customers across 48 states and the District of Columbia. The Edison Electric Institute estimates that 26 million EVs will be on U.S. roads by 2030.

The companies are each developing EV charging solutions within their service territories. With efforts like the Electric Highway Coalition, utilities are demonstrating to customers that EVs can be a smart choice for driving around town as well as traveling long distances.

Adopt-a-Charger

Entergy has separately partnered with Adopt-A-Charger, Inc., a nonprofit organization that installs electric car chargers that are adopted by sponsors and placed in key public areas. These chargers are Level 1 chargers, which take longer to charge a vehicle than the faster Level 2 units.

Entergy Mississippi also installed six chargers on the Hinds Community College campus. That first site of Adopt a Charger’s Charge Up! Mississippi initiative was supported by a $160,000 grant from Entergy’s Environmental Initiatives Fund. The Adopt-a-Charger network grew further in 2025 with Jackson gaining eight EV charging stations in the downtown area, thanks to Charge Up! Mississippi.
