Kea Sherman, Entergy New Orleans’ VP of economic development and customer service, appeared on The Newell Normand Show to talk about economic benefits of the I-510 Corridor and its impact on the city’s future.
During the interview, Sherman outlined the corridor’s potential to establish New Orleans East as a logistics hub, as cargo activity linked to the Port of New Orleans is projected to grow dramatically with the opening of the Louisiana International Terminal. She emphasized the importance of proactive planning to ensure New Orleans East maximizes the economic benefits associated with that growth.
The conversation also highlighted the critical role of infrastructure planning, workforce development, and business investment in attracting logistics companies and creating employment opportunities for residents. Sherman estimated that the corridor has the capacity support 5,000–7,000 positions across warehousing and transportation industries, with many roles offering salaries from $40,000 to over $75,000.
In addition to economic opportunities, the interview addressed the planning considerations for responsible development, including proposed service roads to reduce congestion, sound barriers for nearby neighborhoods, and infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing reliability. She also emphasized the importance of collaboration among community leaders, businesses, and residents to help shape a long-term vision for sustainable economic growth in New Orleans East.
