On April 15, Christian Gioia, an operations coordinator at Entergy, exemplified the company’s values of safety, service and community when his quick thinking and decisive action helped prevent a dangerous situation from escalating near the Chalmette Service Center. As he arrived at the facility, Christian noticed smoke rising from the alley beside a neighboring home and immediately sprang into action.

A fire broke out between two buildings, one of which was a recently built duplex, posing a high risk of rapidly spreading flames and extensive property damage. The homeowner was seen trying to put out a fire that had started inside a discarded appliance placed between the two structures.

Christian quickly assessed the situation and without hesitation he retrieved the fire extinguisher from his truck and successfully put out the fire before it could grow larger. He then immediately contacted emergency responders.

The fire department and police responded swiftly and assumed control of the situation. Christian’s prompt actions were instrumental in preventing a structural fire and protecting residents’ property and their lives.

“I’m grateful I was in the right place at the right time and able to help,” said Christian Gioia. “You never know when a moment of preparedness can make a real difference.”
