Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to count blessings and help lift others up at the same time. Few of us think of the holiday without remembering a favorite family recipe and cherished memories around a table surrounded by loved ones. But many of our customers struggle to afford the ingredients to make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

That’s why Entergy Mississippi is partnering with Extra Table to help out. The Extra Table chicken drive is an annual Thanksgiving fundraising campaign to provide whole chickens and stuffing to Mississippi families in need. Called “Give ‘Em a Bird and the Dressing, Too,” the effort involves Extra Table volunteers and staff traveling across the state to deliver the food to partner food pantries.

Entergy Mississippi is donating $25,000 to support the effort and you can help, too. Many Mississippi families are having trouble making ends meet this holiday season. We invite our neighbors who can offer a helping hand to consider joining us. Donating $15 will provide three whole chickens.

The organization provides whole chickens instead of turkeys because many people lack the proper equipment to cook a large turkey, and whole chickens are easier to store and prepare. Extra Table purchases and delivers chickens and stuffing to its network of over 60 food pantries throughout the state. More than 9,000 chickens were distributed last year and Extra Table hopes to match or exceed that number this year.
