Meet the pros: Stephen Miller

Meet Stephen Miller, a locator on the Entergy Louisiana damage prevention team based in Louisiana. He joined the Entergy team a year and a half ago after beginning his career in damage prevention three years ago.

In his short time at Entergy, Stephen has become known as someone who never hesitates to help. Whether it is assisting a neighbor, stepping in during an emergency or simply noticing when something is not right, he has a long history of being a steady and dependable presence.

That commitment to others was clear during a recent drive home one afternoon. Stephen noticed smoke rising from a patch of dried bamboo along the roadside. Because he drives the same route every day, he knew the area had been especially dry. “When I saw the fire, I turned around as quick as I could,” Stephen said. “I didn’t want to see someone lose their home.”

Stephen switched on his work lights, parked at a safe distance and grabbed the fire extinguisher stored in his truck. “I’m glad I had a fire extinguisher in my truck. You never know when you’ll need it,” he said. A passerby joined him with a shovel, pulling burning debris away from dry leaves to prevent the fire from spreading. By the time the fire department arrived, the flames were already out.

For Stephen, stepping in is not unusual. His background in damage prevention has taught him the importance of being alert and prepared. “Good habits and being aware of your surroundings make a big difference,” he said. “I know my area, and you have to think outside of yourself. If you see something that could hurt someone, step in.”

Stephen’s response to a roadside fire shows what it means to take see something, say something a step further. He chose to do something.

As our region faces more frequent dry conditions, low humidity and gusty winds, wildfire awareness is more important than ever. Understanding these weather patterns helps employees identify risks early and adjust behaviors to reduce the chance of ignition. Stephen’s actions remind us that one person’s awareness and willingness to help can prevent a small hazard from becoming something much more serious. His leadership in the community and his readiness to act set an example for all of us.
