LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Entergy Arkansas representatives and community and economic development leaders today celebrated the new Frazier Pike Substation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Port of Little Rock, marking an important investment in the electrical infrastructure needed to support continued industrial growth in the region.
The need for the new substation was identified in 2022 as projected demand at the Port of Little Rock created a need for additional electrical infrastructure. The substation will provide reliable service for the Port’s existing customers and expanding needs while helping position the Port to capture future growth.
“The Frazier Pike Substation is an important part of Next Generation Arkansas that supports the continued growth and success of the Port of Little Rock,” said Danny Games, VP of business and economic development. “By investing in the capacity needed to serve existing and future businesses, we are helping create an environment where companies can grow, jobs can be created and new investment can come to our region.”
The substation will support major employers at the Port, including Welspun, Trex, Amazon and Faymonville. Together, these companies represent hundreds of jobs and significant economic activity. More broadly, the infrastructure investment positions the Port to attract additional investments to the adjacent certified Little Rock Megasite by providing a ready answer to prospective new customers.
“Reliable electrical infrastructure is essential to competing for the major industrial projects that create jobs and strengthen our economy,” said Jay Chesshir, president and CEO of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce. “The Frazier Pike Substation gives the Port additional capacity and strengthens our ability to compete for the next generation of economic development opportunities.”
The investment comes as the Port of Little Rock continues to see significant industrial activity. Since 2021, announced projects at the Port have included Trex, Elopak, Welspun, Faymonville and Amazon. Those projects represent approximately 2,575 announced jobs and $1 billion in announced investment.
The Frazier Pike Substation is being developed in phases. The project timeline calls for three 50 MVA transformers, with the first completed in December 2025, the second completed in May 2026, and the third scheduled for December 1, 2028. Additional phases include capacitor banks and breakers in 2028 and a new 115 kV line scheduled for 2029.
