JACKSON, Miss. – Entergy Mississippi crews, contractors, tree trimmers and scouts are working diligently to restore power after a severe weather system affected our service area Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning. At peak, about 16,027 customers were without power.
In total, the storm caused outages for more than 23,500 customers. Entergy Mississippi’s restoration workers have already restored power to about 20,000 of the homes and businesses impacted by the storm. As of 7 p.m., less than 15% of customers are still without power.
We expect to restore power to the majority of customers by 10 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Restoration for some of the hardest-hit areas near Natchez, Gloster, Centerville and the surrounding areas in Southwest Mississippi will carry over into Saturday. Customers can check our View Outage Map for updated restoration times.
“Our crews and contract partners are working diligently to restore service to our customers. Powerful storms such as the one we just experienced can cause widespread damage,” said Kamisha Quates, Entergy Mississippi vice president, reliability. “We understand the impact to customers and are committed to restoring power back to our communities as quickly and safely as possible.”
Entergy Mississippi has nearly 800 employees and contractors working the restoration effort. One of the biggest problems facing restoration crews is the widespread nature of the damage across more than 100 communities in our service area. Damage is 97% assessed and includes more than 385 spans or about 20 miles of downed power lines, 75 broken poles and 25 damaged transformers.
The company continues to urge everyone to be safe. Stay away from downed power lines as well as flooded areas. Do not walk in standing water and do not venture into areas of debris since you may not be able to see a power line that could still be energized and dangerous.
