When Entergy Louisiana leaders journeyed to West Louisiana, they didn’t just come to meet with staff and community members, they came to serve. Being a utility means providing affordable and reliable service to our communities, but it also means being of service to the people who call those communities home.
That’s why our team partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) in Sulphur, a nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering beds for children who don’t have one of their own.
In just one day, 38 Entergy Louisiana employees rolled up their sleeves, sanding, treating and assembling 33 brand-new beds for kids across Western Louisiana. Each bed represents more than a place to sleep, it’s comfort, dignity and hope for a child who needs it most.
It’s called sweat equity for a reason,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “True equity in our communities means doing the work. We can invest financially, but the beds still need to be built. We’re honored to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s mission, not just with financial resources, but with our hands and hearts.”
“Every member of the chapter is a volunteer, and nobody gets paid for the work,” said Paul Warner, chapter president of SHP LA–Sulphur. “That means every dollar donated goes directly to helping local kids. Companies like Entergy not only bring volunteers, but they bring the funding that makes this possible. We buy all the materials ourselves, and partnerships like this allow us to keep building.”
Across the United States, an estimated 157,000 children are waiting for a bed of their own. Sleep in Heavenly Peace calls this a “hidden crisis.” You might not see it in your neighborhood, but it’s there – families working hard but struggling to afford necessities and thousands of kids sleeping on floors, couches, or sharing beds with siblings or caregivers every single night.
These aren’t just statistics, they’re children in our communities. Children who deserve a safe, comfortable place to rest and dream.
At Entergy Louisiana, we’re proud to power more than homes—we power hope. And through philanthropic giving and volunteer partnerships with organizations like SHP, we’re helping ensure that every child in Louisiana can rest a little easier.
