Nuclear Science Week is an internationally recognized annual celebration held during the third week of October, dedicated to advancing awareness of nuclear science across local, regional and global communities.
Each year, Entergy’s nuclear fleet amplifies its community engagement by expanding outreach activities, hosting educational events and offering facility tours.
Nuclear headquarters
The Nuclear headquarters’ Women in Nuclear chapter visited North Jackson Elementary School, their local adopted school, to teach nearly 60 students about nuclear energy. The volunteers in attendance presented an interactive activity named candy reactors, educating students on the multi-layered safety systems and safeguards inherent to nuclear reactor design and function. Another activity for the students to learn was a game called Mission Fission, an atom splitting challenge focused on teaching students how a nuclear reaction occurs.
Arkansas Nuclear One
Arkansas Nuclear One had a huge impact throughout Nuclear Science Week educating more than 2,100 students across 13 schools within the River Valley region. Students and community members were able to learn about nuclear power through fun activities, hear about the history of the plant and gain knowledge about the various career opportunities available to them once they graduate and enter the workforce.
Grand Gulf Nuclear Station
Throughout the week, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station employees from the WIN and North American Young Generation in Nuclear chapters hosted approximately 850 students from more than 21 local schools at the plant. Through hands-on activities during the plant tour, students gained insight into the diverse roles and responsibilities that support nuclear plant operations—from skilled trades and electrical systems to security operations, radiation protection measures and laboratory chemistry functions.
On Tuesday, the plant welcomed the Nuclear Clean Air Energy and Medicine themed Indy Car. The custom-made race car rolled onto the site to help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Team members and leadership from the plant were also in attendance for this fun event.
River Bend Station
On Tuesday, River Bend Station partnered with West Feliciana Middle School to teach more than 40 students about how the plant and nuclear science works and to discuss career opportunities available to them within the utility industry upon graduation.
Empowering the next generation to pursue nuclear careers
Through collaborative community engagement, our teams showcase nuclear energy as a safe, clean and reliable power solution while creating pathways for the next generation to build meaningful careers in the industry.
