Over the years, Entergy’s The Power to Care program has made a significant impact. Through the program, local nonprofit agencies, employees and generous customers throughout our service territory have helped provide emergency bill payment assistance to older adults and customers with disabilities.

All the assistance is made possible through charitable donations and fundraising events like Entergy Mississippi’s The Power to Care Golf Tournament held recently at the Refuge Golf Course in Flowood. All donations go directly to helping older adults and customers with disabilities make payments on their Entergy bills and are not used for fundraising or administrative purposes. Successful events like the golf tournament play an important role in having the resources needed when customers need assistance, especially during the hot summer months ahead.

The 2026 event continued the tradition of outpacing the amount raised the previous year. In 2024, the inaugural golf tournament raised $128,600 and last year’s event raised $147,380. This year, a new record was set: $182,000 was raised to help older adults and customers with disabilities with emergency bill assistance.

“Each year, the tournament committee, sponsors and teams raise the bar to produce an event even more impactful than the year before,” said Valarie Mabry, public affairs analyst for Entergy Mississippi. “The funds for The Power to Care program will go a long way in helping our elderly and disabled customers with bill payment assistance.”

When the final team finished the course, the Howard Industries team proved victorious with a team score of 16 under par. In recognition of this accomplishment, each member of the winning team received a green jacket in the spirit of the Masters golf tournament that took place earlier this month.

“It’s encouraging to see how this event has grown in just three years,” said Austin Williams, senior capital projects procurement specialist, commercial operations, transmission and distribution, and chair of the tournament planning committee. “That success is a testament of the dedicated support from our vendor partners and their commitment to serving Entergy’s customers. We’re excited to build on the momentum and are looking forward to 2027.”
