More than 650 community members gathered at the Joe Brown Park Recreation Center for Entergy New Orleans’ annual Energize NOLA Community Fair and Backpack Giveaway, an event designed to help local families prepare for the upcoming school year while connecting them with valuable community resources and energy-saving programs.
The free event brought together students, parents and community partners for an afternoon of education, entertainment and family-friendly activities. Students received backpacks filled with school supplies, while families explored exhibits and organizations offering services and opportunities throughout the community.
“Energize NOLA is about more than providing school supplies. It’s about investing in our young people and making sure families have access to the resources, partnerships and educational opportunities that help our community thrive,” said Stephanie Willis, director of public affairs for Entergy New Orleans. “Events like this reflect Entergy New Orleans’ commitment to supporting student success and strengthening the communities we serve.”
Attendees enjoyed live music, snowballs, cotton candy, hot dogs and nachos, along with Entergy’s interactive Arcs and Sparks safety demonstration. The celebration also featured a special appearance by New Orleans Saints mascot Gumbo and members of the Saints Cheer Krewe.
The event also connected attendees with a variety of community organizations and resources. Representatives from United Way of Southeast Louisiana, Green Light New Orleans, STEM NOLA, Delgado Community College and other local partners shared information about programs and services available to families. Energy Smart provided free energy-saving products and practical tips to help customers reduce energy use and lower their utility bills.
Families also had the opportunity to tour Entergy’s Mobile Command Unit and learn how the company prepares for emergencies and restores power following major weather events. Entergy employees gave attendees an opportunity to explore the company’s bucket trucks and learn about the specialized equipment lineworkers use to safely maintain the electrical grid.
