Entergy’s linemen proved their skills at the 41st International Lineman’s Rodeo and Expo. This year marked an exciting milestone for the company: Journeyman lineman Zach Calhoun from Louisiana was awarded second place in the Apprentice Hurtman Rescue. His win is proof of the talent and safety-first attitude that runs deep across Entergy.

The Lineman’s Rodeo attracts the best linemen from around the world to compete in events based on traditional lineman tasks and skills. The first Lineman’s Rodeo was held in September 1984, with twelve participating teams from Kansas and Missouri. The Rodeo has grown to over 300 teams and 450 apprentices. This included 31 competitors from Entergy who were the best from the regional Entergy rodeos hosted earlier in the year.

The rodeo is more than competition, it’s a celebration of the craftsmanship, precision and teamwork that define the lineman profession. Each of our competitors put in the work, had each other’s back and showed what our commitment to safety and excellence is all about. When asked what this competition meant to them, each lineman proudly declared that the comradery and the brotherhood between the linemen meant the most.

“This year’s International Lineman Rodeo was our best performance since we returned to competition three years ago,” said Charles Long, senior vice president of power delivery. “To have four of our teams finish with only a single deduction was outstanding. And watching Zach, our top performing apprentice, finish an outstanding 17th overall out of 364 competitors, including placing second in the difficult hurtman event, was terrific. I am thankful we have such dedicated professionals here at Entergy and look forward to future opportunities for them to shine.”

Thank you to everyone who represented Entergy this year, from competitors to support teams. We’re proud of your hard work and can’t wait to see what next year brings.
