Entergy will join organizations around the world on June 23 to recognize International Women in Engineering Day. This year’s theme, Engineering Intelligence, highlights the engineers who are solving complex problems, advancing technology and helping build a safer, more resilient future for our communities.
The day brings global attention to the innovation, expertise and leadership women contribute across the engineering profession. Their work strengthens our industry, broadens perspectives and helps companies like Entergy remain competitive and forward thinking.
“The future of progress in our industry depends on attracting, supporting and developing the best talent across every part of our organization, including engineering,” said Chief Operating Officer Kimberly Cook-Nelson, who has a background in mechanical engineering and engineering management. “International Women in Engineering Day celebrates the women whose expertise and leadership strengthen our company and drive innovation for the communities we serve.”
How it began
International Women in Engineering Day traces its roots to the United Kingdom, where the Women’s Engineering Society was founded in 1919 after World War I. Created by Lady Katharine Parsons, Rachel Parsons and other pioneering engineers, the organization aimed to support women entering technical fields and to advocate for gender equality in engineering. The society launched International Women in Engineering Day as a national campaign in 2014, and it gained international recognition in 2017. Since then, it has grown into a global movement.
Honoring progress
Across the electric power industry and beyond, organizations mark this day by highlighting the women who are excelling in engineering roles and those who are building pathways for future generations. Their contributions reinforce that diverse viewpoints drive stronger decisions, better solutions and meaningful innovation.
