Entergy Louisiana is proud to recognize employees Jamison Jones and Caleb Neyland for their exceptional display of integrity, responsibility and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others – values that define who we are as a company.

On Saturday, November 8, shortly after shift change, Jones witnessed an individual collapse on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge while leaving work. Drawing on his field experience, past CPR and first-aid awareness, and instinct for safety, he quickly activated his flashers and used his truck as a protective barrier to shield the individual and bystanders from oncoming traffic. “As I approached slowly it appeared the individual was experiencing a seizure,” Jones said. “I immediately stopped my truck and used my vehicle as a protective barrier to slow traffic and keep the scene safe.”

After assessing the individual and keeping him calm, Jones contacted Neyland, knowing Entergy distribution operators have direct access to emergency personnel. Neyland took immediate action. “I first realized something was wrong when Jamison called me and asked for me to get in touch with emergency services,” Neyland explained.  He arrived on scene to assist, drawing on a lifetime of exposure to public service through his family. “Growing up with my mom being a nurse over 30 years and my dad and uncle serving in law enforcement taught me to always stop and help people in need.”

Together, the two moved the individual safely onto the sidewalk, monitored his breathing, kept him alert, and protected the scene until first responders arrived. Their actions demonstrate the impact of Entergy’s focus on safety. “As a first responder in any situation, it’s important to stay calm, think clearly and make logical, safety-focused decisions,” Jones said.  Similarly, Neyland noted that their emergency-response training as distribution operators shaped their ability to act decisively: “We respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies, making the right decisions to save people, minimize customer outages and protect Entergy equipment.”

Both operators recognized the risks involved, particularly the danger of traffic along Essen Lane. “The biggest risk was a vehicle striking the people on scene,” Neyland shared. “Jamison parked his vehicle in a spot to where everyone was out of harm’s way.”  Their coordinated response ensured the individual received the care he needed while keeping the area secure.

Although off duty, Jones and Neyland demonstrated the highest standards of service, compassion and integrity, showing that Entergy employees are committed not only to the success of our company, but to the safety and well-being of the customers and communities we serve. For Jones, that commitment is long-standing: “I always aim to represent Entergy positively in the community by showing that we care and are here to help,” he said, noting he previously received Entergy’s Humanitarian Award from Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO, for similar acts of public assistance.

Neyland echoed the importance of stepping up for others: “It is important to help the community when needed because you never know what someone else is going through, Everyone needs someone.”

“The actions taken by Jamison and Caleb reflect the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” said Olga De Benito, DOC supervisor at Entergy Louisiana. “Their prompt response, sound judgment and commitment to assisting a community member in distress exemplify the core values we expect of our team and reinforce the trust our communities place in us.”

We extend our sincere appreciation to Jamison and Caleb for exemplifying the service, responsibility and compassion that guide our work every day.
