Strengthening reliability and resilience across the city

Through our Accelerated Resilience Plan, we are taking a targeted approach to strengthening infrastructure in areas most vulnerable to outages. The first phase includes a $100 million investment in 63 projects that will strengthen nearly 3,100 structures and upgrade 63 miles of electric lines through 2026.

These projects span neighborhoods across New Orleans and include replacing aging infrastructure with stronger poles and equipment designed to withstand higher winds. In each council district, crews are installing structures designed to withstand winds of up to 140 miles per hour. These improvements will help reduce storm-related damage, limit outage durations and support faster restoration.

These investments are complemented by ongoing work to enhance reliability and improve the performance of critical infrastructure. Transmission upgrades are an important part of this work, with crews completing improvements throughout the city. The projects include replacing aging equipment, upgrading transmission structures, and managing vegetation around key infrastructure. Specialized crews have performed work on active transmission lines, helping crews complete needed improvements while minimizing service interruptions.

We have also installed new smart-grid technology and advanced meters to improve how we identify and respond to outages. These technologies provide our teams with more information about service interruptions and can help reroute power when problems occur.

Investing in critical infrastructure

Our reliability work is not limited to only neighborhoods. It also requires a strong transmission system and infrastructure that supports the city’s essential services.

Our transmission investments include the Sullivan Substation, a $34 million project completed in 2025 that provides electricity to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board. The project is designed to strengthen the resiliency of critical water and drainage infrastructure during major weather events. We have also completed upgrades at the Sherwood Forest Substation to enhance transmission reliability and reduce customers’ exposure to equipment failures.

These investments build on other projects across the city, including the New Orleans Solar Station, critical substation upgrades and underground transformer replacements in the Central Business District and French Quarter. Together, these investments help modernize the electric system, strengthen reliability and improve the resilience of critical infrastructure.
