JACKSON, Miss. – Entergy Mississippi is investing in the future of higher education and workforce development by awarding $20,000 in STEM scholarships to four outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or HBCUs, and partner institutions across Mississippi. The scholarships are part of Entergy’s $20 Million Power of Prosperity initiative, which supports HBCUs and minority-serving institutions across the Gulf South to help remove barriers to students’ academic success.
The initiative pillars include academic scholarships, workforce development including student internships, mentoring and faculty externships; generational wealth-building; and competitive facility grants and endowments. Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing degrees in high-demand fields such as computer science, information technology, engineering and related disciplines that align with the evolving energy workforce.
“These students represent the future of our communities across the Gulf South region. Their talent, determination and ambition will help shape the next generation of innovation, industry and economic development across our state,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “By investing in their education today, we’re not only opening doors of opportunity, we’re building a stronger, more resilient workforce that will support our communities for years to come.”
The Competitive Facilities Grant portion of the program will provide up to $1 million in funding this year for accredited HBCUs and Minority Serving Institutions in Entergy’s service area to help upgrade classrooms, labs, and equipment. Awards will be announced during the fall semester.
