Texas transmission projects

SETEX Area Reliability Project

Description: A new single-circuit 500-kV transmission line approximately 145 miles in length in Jasper, Montgomery, Newton, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler and Walker counties. The new transmission line will connect the proposed Babel 500-kV Switching Station to the proposed Running Bear Substation.

Cost: Approximately $1.3 billion.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the winter of 2029

Benefits: This project addresses load growth and reliability needs in Southeast Texas.


Cypress to Legend 500-kV line

Description: A new single-circuit 500-kV transmission line approximately 40 to 49 miles in length in Hardin and Jefferson counties. The new transmission line will connect the existing Cypress Substation to the new Legend 500 kV Substation.

Cost: Approximately $450 million.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the winter of 2028.

Benefits: This project addresses future load growth and reliability issues in the Port Arthur area.


Legend to Sandling 230kV Circuit

Description: A new single-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line approximately 8.8 to 9.9 miles in length in Jefferson County. The line will connect the existing Legend Substation to the currently under-construction Sandling Substation.

Cost: Approximately $87.3 million.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the summer of 2027.

Benefits: This project will help meet the growing power demands of Southeast Texas and maintain compliance with federal reliability standards.


Southline 138-kV line

Description: A new 138-kV transmission line approximately 6 to 10 in Liberty and San Jacinto counties.

Cost: Approximately $50 million.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the Spring of 2026.

Benefits: This project addresses future reliability issues the area and supports expected commercial and residential load growth.


Millbend 230 kV: New Substation

Description: This project constructs a new distribution substation that cuts into the existing New Caney to Parkway or New Caney to Porter 138 kV line. The new substation will be located South of New Caney, TX.

Cost: Approximately $143 million.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the summer of 2027.

Benefits: This project addresses future load growth and reliability issues South of New Caney, TX near I-69.


Texas 138 kV: New Substation

Description: This project constructs a new distribution substation that cuts into the existing Lewis Creek to Goree 138 kV line. The new substation will be located South of Huntsville, TX.

Cost: Approximately $67 million.

Status: This project is expected to be in service by the winter of 2026.

Benefits: This project addresses future load growth and reliability issues south of Huntsville, TX along I-45.
